What a Squeeze Page Is And Why You Need It
Internet marketing is definitely a thing of the present and future with more and more people trying their hand at starting an online business. People have a vision in their head of building a website and selling a product or products and becoming independently wealthy or, at the very least, successful enough to make this their career. However, seldom do they realize all the work that’s involved in having a successful online business.
If you have an online business, obviously you’re selling something. But, before you can sell something, you need customers and if no one knows you have a website or online business, you’re not going to have the customers. If you do enough advertising through blogging, forums, search engines, etc., you will soon have potential customers coming to your website to view your products. You are going to want more than just to have visitors come to view your website. You want to give them a reason to come back and make purchases. Most people will not buy on the first visit.
How interested you keep your customers depends in large on how successful your website is as a selling tool. The one type of the website that many fail to have is the squeeze page. The squeeze page and its importance cannot be underestimated. Some people aren’t even aware of what a squeeze page is. The squeeze page is the page a prospective customer will go to just before the sales page. It’s the page where they’ll enter their email addresses so they can become a client you can contact with features specials, newsletters, etc.
The squeeze page is where the visitors on your website will have the opportunity to “opt in”, which is where you offer them a free gift or something of interest in exchange for their email address. This free gift can be a chance to enter a drawing, a monthly newsletter with things of interest to them or some other bonus item. The squeeze page is very important to your business because it’s the premier way to build your email list, which is a must with an online business. List building offers you the opportunity to get more potential customers so you can send them newsletters, special notices, RSS or sales letters sometime in the future.
So, now you see the importance of having a squeeze page. It’s your main way of getting your potential customers to let you know that they want to hear from you. Try to set up your squeeze page so it gets as much personal information about your potential customers as possible so you can treat them as though you know them. People enjoy the “personal touch”. The more customers and exposure you have, the better your chances of making sales.
Now lets talk about how your squeeze page needs to be set up…
A squeeze page can have any look and feel that you want it to have. However, there are 3 things that ALL squeeze pages must have in order to be effective. Here is how I set up all of my squeeze pages…
Relevant Headline
Before you can capture their information, you have to be able to capture their intrest. Your headline is crucial to capturing the attention of any visitors. This is the first thing they see and based upon how they react to it they will either read further down on your page or leave. This decision is usually made in a matter of just seconds.
You first want to be sure your headline is consistent with the traffic source that brought the visitors to your page and also reflects the content they will view. If there are inconsistencies most visitors will leave the page without hesitation and will be lost to you for good. For example, if you send out a tweet that says, something about dogs, and gives a link back to your squeeze page, then you better make sure your headline says something about dogs in it.
You want to chose a headline that speaks directly to a visitor’s needs or desires because this this will lure them into continuing to read further on in the page. You should know what they are looking for since it was your ad or traffic source that attracted them to your page in the first place. Connecting with them on an emotional level like this is your best bet to capture their interest.
Bring On The Benefits With Captivating Bullet Points
Your bullet points should contain benefits that the visitor will salivate over and can not live without. Your benefits should be published directly from everyones favorite radio station, WIIFM. (What’s In It For Me) These should outline the top 5 to 7 things your product gift or service has to offer. Therefore pick the ‘creme of the crop’ and use this format or a similar one such as numbered or sub-titled to present them.
If you do not use a video to outline the benefits, then it is crutial to use bullet points. Listing them in this fashion makes it easier for the reader to view and also helps to NOT clutter the page with needless content or paragraphs. Remember, your squeeze page does not have to be fancy to be effective. They should not be designed to ‘distract’ or ‘wow’ your visitor but rather get them to ‘focus’ on your offer.
Don’t distract visitors by putting links to other pages or anything like that. You only want the visitor to do ONE thing and that is to give you their information. If they don’t then the only other option should be to leave the page. This one page alone will be responsible for how much money you make online.
Get Them To Take Action NOW By Creating A Sense of Urgency
Creating a sense of urgency with the site visitor is an absolute MUST! It is critical that you clearly convey to any visitor that you want them to leave their information. Make it plain that in order for them to ‘experience’ the benefits you explained in your bullet points they must enter their contact information and now! You needto spell it out for them, as if they are 5 years old. Tell them exactly what you want them to do i.e. “enter their name and email address in the form below, and click the submit button”.
The purpose of squeeze pages is to capture contact information for the people who land on the page. You will NOT get a second chance so once they leave they are likely gone FOREVER! It is therefore essentiall that you are very clear with them to leave this information in the box you have provided for them! And do not be afraid to repeat this desire throughout the brief amount of content found on the page. (this can be done effectively with video)
Realizing the squeeze page is your most important list building ‘tool’ attention should be focused on its effectiveness. Developing an email list of people receptive to your promotional efforts can help you expand your business rapidly. Tweaking your squeeze pages to grow your opt in list as fast as possible thereby only makes sense. By employing the 3 simple strategies we discussed here today should help you accomplish this task. At that point, it is up to you to develop a comfortable ‘working’ relationship with these people through your follow-up email contacts with them
Here are a few examples of some effective squeeze pages for you to look at that should give you some ideas…
